Baby Dress

I had professional photos taken of my babies when they were about 7 months old.  My daughter asked me to make a dress like the one she wore.
I couldn't find any lavender baby rosebud fabric so looked through my stash to see what I had and chose the lightest lavender.

I made a pattern.  After cutting out the pieces, I realized the bodice front was too wide.  Should I revise the pattern and cut it out again?  Then I thought of adding pin tucked stitching!
You can see the rosettes and lace trimmed collar details also.

The little puffed sleeves turned out sweet.
I sewed in lining and even added some netting to make it rustle and a little poofy.
I watched a video on button holes made with the machine I have and was able to make button holes easily even though it'd been a long time.  The video was very helpful so I didn't have to look in the manual.

Now to go find out if it fits??
Pretty good!
I can see more baby dress creations in my future!!

More Baby Quilts

This is my first commissioned quilt.  It is for baby Emily from her Grandma.

Half square triangles sewn together randomly with sashing and stars in the corners.  Similar to the one I made my granddaughter but unique.  I'm going to embroider in the middle name and birth date when they know.

This is for baby Joseph Mekhei, named for his dad, but his middle name is the Hawaiian version.
I used the rest of the panel that I used for my niece's forest animal quilt, but this time I used a charm pack to make four patches for the alternate squares.  I created a fox, raccoon, bunny, bear design to quilt it.  I really love this simple pattern,

I made these baby quilts for my work friend's (who is retiring) little granddaughters, Story Katrina and Navy Jane.  She will move out of the area and I won't see her often.  I will miss her!

Prairie point border on one and the other has a wavy border.  I'm really happy to try something new!

I quilted them with a scottie dog and hearts design I created and added scottie dog labels.  Unfortunately it's difficult to see the quilting.

Long ago when I started these blocks I noted some cutting instructions below.  The prairie points are 3 1/2" squares folded diagonally twice.  I sewed them on facing into the quilt at the same time I applied the red binding and when I turned them out and pressed them, they looked great!  Then I just had to sew a stay stitch on the front and sew the binding down in back.  When I make this border again, I will not cut the binding 2 1/2", but will cut it 1 5/8"
Cutting instructions:  4 1/2" squares
Sashing:  1 1/2" strips
Cornerstones:  1 1/2" squares
Setting triangles:  5" square cut diagonally once

Cutting instructions:
Pinwheels:  4 7/8" squares (place print and white background fabrics right sides together, sew around perimeter with 1/4" seam, cut diagonally twice to yield 4 half square triangles (HSTs).  Square up HSTs to 3" and sew together into pinwheel formation.
Triangle borders:  Cut 6 1/4" square and cute diagonally twice.
Setting triangles:  Construct two HST's and join as shown.  Sew a bigger triangle (cut from 6" square cut diagonally twice or 4 1/8" square cut diagonally once) and two smaller triangles (cut 3 1/2" square cut diagonally once) to each side as shown

And here is the pattern I used for Joseph Mekhei's.

Maple Leaf Block Instructions

To make the 9 1/2 inch maple leaf blocks:   Some basic instructions HSTs cut each, background and color 3 7/8” squares (cut diagonally once)...
