More Red, White and Blue

I have another coworker retiring and since I got last minute notice (and may not be up to making big retirement quilts anymore, anyway)

I gathered some blue stars I've been making and made a patriotic table runner.  I used the free star pantograph by Urban elementz again as I used on the triangle quilt

On the back I used some Christmas fabric so it's reversible

I found this card I made back in my card making days and pinned on a little tag.

All wrapped up and ready to give away

If you want to make one, you can use the 6 1/2 inch star tutorial found in this post and just cut 2 inch strips for the stripes.  The short stripes are 5 inches and the long ones are 15 1/2 inches.  If I made it again, I might put a white strip between the stars.

The Hungry, Hungry Caterpillar Quilt for a Baby

Isn't this the cutest baby quilt my friend, Faith, made for her friend's grandbaby?

It is a panel and she added the striped border, the tealish blue and then the pinwheels and the last blue border.

The back is all the yummy foods he (or she) ate

I quilted it for her with a flower and swirl design

I think I may order one of these panels!

Christmas Corner June 2021

I'm so glad to show you the Walk in the Forest Quilt, started last year, is now complete!

Pattern from the Jumpstart on Christmas: 5 day sew along, which was a fundraiser for victims of the terrible fires in the Santa Cruz mountains last year.

Some of the others made their backgrounds with scrappy low volume and so I did too and love how it turned out.

This anti pill fleece is super soft and pretty, although it doesn't look as pretty in the picture

Marvel Tote Bag

Today is Donna's birthday so I made her a Marvel Tote bag.
Inset zipper on front

It's not easy to see, but inside bag lining is upcycled jeans with pockets intact for handy bag pockets.

Back of bag (looks similar to the front)

My husband modeling the bag in front of the grape vine.

In front of the honeysuckle

In front of the orchids (my husband is an excellent gardener!)

Happy Birthday Dear Donna!

Patriotic Things

I've been seeing so many ideas and beautiful talented bloggers making red, white and blue things and figured I'd start making these scrap busting 6 1/2" star blocks (unfinished) which could be used for all sorts of projects.

I'll include some no waste cutting instructions below.

I got my triangle quilt loaded onto the quilting machine.  You can see a peak at the backing which is white stars on blue fleece.  I decided to forgo batting since it's a summer quilt.

I'm using this free pantograph, Starlets, that I saw on another blog (thank you) so am passing along the info.  Urban elementz has 43 free pantographs!

Here's the quilt top on the design wall I've shown before

And here is my scrap busting, no waste, star tutorial
6 1/2" unfinished saw tooth star block

Gather some scraps together

For each star background you will need:
(2) 3" squares cut diagonally once OR (1) 4 1/4" square cut diagonally twice
and
(4) 2" squares

For the STAR you will need:
(3) 3 1/2" squares OR (1) 3 1/2" square and (4) 2 1/2" squares
One of the 3 1/2" squares will be the center of the star and the star legs will be made of the 3 1/2" squares cut diagonally twice or the 2 1/2" squares cut diagonally once  Note:  you can see I cut the white 3 1/2" square diagonally twice but the 2 1/2" blue squares only once and they are the same size

Lay out your pieces and sew to form 4 flying geese

Trim your flying geese to 2 x 3 1/2"

Sew all pieces together and trim to 6 1/2"

Maple Leaf Block Instructions

To make the 9 1/2 inch maple leaf blocks:   Some basic instructions HSTs cut each, background and color 3 7/8” squares (cut diagonally once)...
