St. Patrick's Day Pillows

My daughter made this water color of trout and glued them on green glitter paper.  You can see the empty shamrock wire, that still needs more strips tied on.

I made this little topper long ago and am so happy to complete it with light green binding.

I showed this topper and many other items in the previous post with links to where to find free instructions.

I am hand quilting the top mini quilt.  I love it but so time consuming!

St. Patty's Day Pinwheels and More

Hurray, it's time to sew with green fabrics!  Have you seen Leap Year? (such a great romantic movie!  Set in Ireland, so fits with March, as well as February.)

I took out some old projects, unfinished ones and tied some green ribbon on my carousel horse made by my friend, Donna long ago.  

I found this wire shamrock at the $1.25 store.  Here's my Heart wreath post with link to the tutorial.

 I doodled some ideas for new projects.  Here's a tutorial for the mini, Celtic Knot wall hanging

I recently made this scrappy St. Patty's Day Pinwheel pillow cover, using this mini quilt tutorial here.

The Shamrock table topper was made using this tutorial

I added some free motion quilting to this pillow cover, I made years ago.  See the free, paper pieced, shamrock, template.  I improvised and left a petal off on two of the shamrocks.

This little shamrock was also made using the template mentioned above, a long time ago.  I added a border and love to see it hanging on the tiny quilt stand

Recently, I added free motion quilting and binding to the mini shamrock.  I used the wonder clips to hand sew the binding down which I don't usually do and wondered how people can actually hand sew down binding on a large quilt!  My friends say it is relaxing and they enjoy it, but it takes practice.

I started making more of these double Irish chain blocks.  I have a layout of how to make the blocks in this post.

P.S. A Few More Valentines

Just wanted to share a couple more things before it's time to pack up what is unfinished (which will be a treat to take out for next year).

Sweetheart Pillow is made with little 3 1/2" hearts (To make: take two strips of fabric 2 x 3 1/2";  Snowball the top corners with 1" squares of background fabric.  Snowball the bottom corner with 2" squares of background fabric.  Add stripes!

Mini pink and red patchwork toppers, still need quilted and bound.

I think I will remove the white corner square triangles and add some triangles to the top of the envelope and make two more.... anyway, I'll show you next year.

Happy Valentine's Day Wreath

I was happy to find a heart shaped wire frame at the dollar store.  I folded lengthwise and finger pressed and then started tying on some 1 1/2 x 6 1/2" strips but later changed the way I tied them on.  

In order to make the wreath fuller, I strung a bit of ribbon and tied as shown and tied on extra strips.

It turned out so pretty, but I wasn't liking that there were frayed edges, so started pinking the edges in spots where I saw fraying and on all subsequent strips I added.  Just beware to open the pinking shears with two hands, to spare your poor thumb joint!  Or if you have a pinked rotary cutter blade, that might work well.

Time for Red and White Sewing

I took out my Valentine Day decorations and realized I have no quilty runners or toppers or wall hangings.  I checked Pinterest for ideas and then pulled out all my red and white scraps and got busy.

This cute little block is only 8 x 10" and called Box of Chocolates.  It is a free pattern from The Temecula Quilt Company.  I'm going to quilt it tomorrow.

 

This little topper is 3 1/2" squares sewn together and the scallop border is made with 3 1/2 x 2” rectangles with two corners snowballed with 1 3/8” squares

All quilted with hearts and swirls and bound with white

These scrappy hearts are made with 2 1/2” squares and half square triangles

I found a cute X O pillow tutorial from a Quilting Life so have been making some
